Emma's Birthday Party - A Zoo in so many ways...

Emma's birthday party was last weekend - we watched Bob Ryan and his weather forecast for so many days, and had all our rain contingencies in place. Lo and behold, the day was muggy and hot - so hot that it felt like the middle of the summer... Still everyone came, in good spirits, and ready to celebrate, so that was nice!

We had a petting zoo and pony at the house, plus some crafts and a moon bounce. Emma had such a great time... when we asked her what she liked the best, she said everything, except the little animals - but her favorite really was that pony, which she ended up riding 3 times.

My brother, Tony, took all these pictures - they came out much better than anything we would have taken, so thanks!!!

An alpaca, miniature pony, and a goat -- which dutifully chewed up a big patch of our grass :(

At the beginning, Emma got to sit inside the "Critter Corral" while everyone watched, as she opened up birthday baskets which contained little animals. She didn't like this very much - maybe it was being the center of everyone's attention, maybe the rabbits were too jumpy - but she really didn't like this part, and thankfully it only lasted a few minutes...

We had our next door neighbor, Sarah (who's 11), help out at the party. She was such a help throughout the party - thinking about things to help with before I even had to ask! Her main job was to help the kids work on a colored sand project, where they design a tube with different colors. The catch is, the sand is actually candy -- sandy candy!

Because it wasn't hot enough, and we really wanted to get the kids worked up... we put out the moonbounce.

Cake Time!!!

Here are the kids all lined up and ready to smash the piƱata

Diving for candy...

As usual, Alexa had a second piece of cake and then was "still hungry" - so Arturo gave her a Snack Pack. As Elizabeth put it when she saw Alexa eating by herself, her favorite spot in the world is "at the table."
To everyone who is reading this and came to the party, thank you very much for coming out in the heat and helping Emma to celebrate her 5th birthday. She had a really happy day!
