Our carrots are finally ready to be harvested and Emma tried her first one this weekend. She said it was good. I didn't get to eat any since we only pulled one, but look at how proud she is!

Caught Redhanded
Here's another sure sign that you are the 3rd child...
Tessa was exploring our food pantry, when she knocked over an open huge box of Cheerios. Cheerios spilled all over the ground. To a baby like Tessa, this is akin to a ginormous box of candy suddenly becoming accesible. She immediately began thrusting fistfuls of Cheerios in her mouth. Instead of stopping her from eating Cheerios off the floor, I grabbed a camera and snapped a few pictures.
Piñatas and Ice Cream Sundaes
The birthday celebration for Alexa continues... On the actual day of her birthday (6/24), we invited over some neighborhood kids to swing at a piñata and make their own ice cream sundaes. Sadly, because I overstuffed the poor little unicorn, the weight of the piñata made her break on her own by the 3rd or 4th child. The kids didn't seem to mind as they scrambled for the goodies!

Kitchen Silliness
The other day, I needed to work on dinner, so I got out a few cooking utensils and mixing bowls for Tessa to play on the floor next to me. A few minutes later, I looked down and all three girls were huddled in a circle, each with a bowl on their head. It was a cute, very natural moment - which I chose to ruin - by grabbing my camera and asking them to pose. Tessa, had been very happy banging her whisk, sitting next to her big sisters - and I royally pissed her off!

Mango Forks are a wonderful, wonderful invention
The Mexicans were really onto something when they created the contraption called "The Mango Fork." I admit that I scoffed at Arturo when he first asked his mom to buy 8-10 of them for us. Really, do we need another useless utensil/apparatus in our kitchen? But that was years and years ago, when I was young and naive. Our mango forks have gotten regular use in our household - we couldn't live without them! Here's Tessa gnawing on a mango with all her might.
Chinese Immersion Camp
My parents were here for a little over a week - summer vacation has already started for Alexa - and my mom offered to stay with Alexa during the day while I'm at work. We call it Chinese Camp. It was nice having them around!

Happy 9 Months, Tessa!
Has it really been 9 months already? This past month, Tessa has mastered crawling, pulling up and is starting to cruise around. She is the happiest when she sees her big sisters, and laughs the hardest when Emma tickles her and makes funny faces. She has started to be VERY vocal on the highchair - especially when she is out of food and wants to eat more! She loves to babble about everything!
Africa Day, Sunset Hills
An annual tradition at Sunset Hills Montessori is "International Day." The school focuses their study each school year on a different continent which then culminates into a day when all the kids in the school travel to Africa. The entire school has been done up to be like that country, with food, games, music, entertainment from that continent/country. This year, the kids traveled to Africa.
They set up the classroom to be the airplane. Here's Alexa with her "passport," handily tucked into her dress! That's my girl!
Once the plane landed, all the kids had to take their luggage and go through customs first (here she is getting her bag checked):
...followed by immigration, where they got their passport stamped.

Half Sleepover Party!
A couple of weekends ago, we had the girls from Alexa's class over to our house for a Half Sleepover Birthday Party to celebrate Alexa's 5th birthday. The idea of the half sleepover was that everyone would come in their PJ's, bring a sleeping bag - and we'd do fun things that you do at a sleepover, but everyone gets picked up at before the sleeping part!
First, all the girls decorated pillow cases with fabric markers, and signed Alexa's pillowcase.
Once they had finished with their pillowcases, they got in line to get their nails painted. Sarah, our next door neighbor who is 13, helped me with the party. Between her and Ginny, they painted all the girls in bright fun colors!
Then it was off to the basement for some fun sleepover games.
I divided the kids up into two teams and we had a fun sleeping bag relay race. Each child had to run to the sleeping bag, crawl in, snore 3 times, wake up - pretend to brush their teeth and wash their face, "eat" breakfast, and then run back and hand the baton to the next person in line. It was chaotic, fast, and fun!
Next game: Pass the Stinky Slippers, aka Hot Potato.
It was very cute when everyone crawled into their sleeping bags - we played a game where everyone had to pretend to sleep and dream of doing something in their sleep, like riding a bike, or pretending to be a monkey, or playing the violin.
Alexa had SUCH a blast at her party!

Herndon Festival 2010
What summer is complete without the Herndon Festival? Perhaps a sign that they are slightly outgrowing the rides, not a single child wanted to ride the cars that go around and around in a circle. Emma even dared to ride a kiddie-thrill ride! It looks like Arturo will have a buddy to go on the rollercoasters with soon. Alexa and I will probably stick with the Ferris Wheel. Too soon to tell with Tessa.
I went on the banana slide with Alexa because she was scared to go alone. Secretly, I was happy that I got to try a ride...!
