Fran and Arturo, as dorky as ever
I came down one weekend morning, and Arturo (who had already been up for a while) took one look at me, and greeted me with, "Hello, dork."
I wonder if you can guess why he said this and why we took this picture.

Alexa capped off a study unit on Australia at her preschool with an Australian themed party at school. Part of it included face painting - here she is as an Aboriginee.
4 Months... and what comes with it
We celebrated Tessa's 4 month birthday by decorating cupcakes for the little girl. There are a bunch of pictures similar to the ones below, and in every single one, Tessa's eyes are glazed over while staring at the flame on her cupcake. I guess this does represent a developmental milestone in that she is really interested in something and can focus on it for a long time!
So we now have a "wakeful 4 month old." This phenomeon basically means that she has awakened to the world around her and is suddenly VERY distracted by every noise she hears. This is generally good, except when she is trying to nurse. Because she doesn't nurse as well during the day - and hence gets hungrier during the overnight hours - and hence wakes up more. My good night sleeper, who was sleeping good 5-6 hour stretches, has been waking up every 2 hours or so to eat for the last week or so. I was just getting accustomed to getting 5 hour stretches, and being awakened every 2 hours again has been so painful. I'm getting too old for this!

Happy New Year!
After we got Tessa down to sleep, we headed to our next door neighbor's house for some dessert, drinks, and fun. We rang in the New Year with the kids at around 11:30 pm - Emma and Alexa didn't get to bed until a little after midnight. I'm amazed by the fact that they were still up by 8 am the next day!
These are a few of my favorite things...
Our plans to have a New Year's Eve dinner out with our neighbors changed when Tessa decided to catch a cold. With her congestion, she was having a hard time getting settled to sleep, so we figured it would be safer to stay at home for dinner and meet up with everyone else later.
With less than a day to plan a New Year's Eve dinner with the whole family, we decided to start a new tradition... My Favorite Things Dinner. (Think Sound of Music song)
Each family member got to choose what they wanted for dinner. It could be anything at all. Emma and Alexa thought this was hilarious - and they really tested me on it. But they were very surprised to find out for that one night they truly were able to eat anything at all that they wanted!
The real challenge came when we tried to assemble 4 very different meals and have them all ready at the same time. I won't be on Top Chef anytime soon! But the girls helped with almost every dish - so there was chaos in the kitchen, but it was a good kind of chaos!

Emma wanted Funfetti cake, a mochi, and Soda:
Arturo requested Bacon Cheese Fries, and Tessa decided on an old standby - milk.
I opted for a Cheeseburger and Cookies and Cream Milkshake. (Ok, Cheeseburgers aren't necessarily my "favorite" meal - but after everyone else was asking for essentially sweets, I felt like I should at least contribute some protein to the meal.)
Merry Christmas
My parents were at our house for Christmas this year. Tessa decided to give us the best present of all and slept until past 9:30 am that morning! The girls had been up since 7 am, and couldn't wait anymore so we let them go ahead and open presents while Tessa slept.
We went to Clay Cafe and made a plate with all the girls' handprints as a present for Puo Puo and Gong Gong. I was amazed that Emma actually kept this a secret - she is notorious for telling everyone in her excitement! Even Tessa's tiny little handprint came out really nicely...
For Tessa's Christmas present, my mom and dad got her a baby carrier (ok, really it was for me ;). After intense research on what might work best, I finally settled on a Pikkolo carrier. It allows you to wear your baby front facing in, front facing out, on your hip and on your back. Here we are practicing the front facing in carry...
The girls and I gave Arturo a 1000 piece puzzle for Christmas. Ok, it was easy-peasy for Arturo to do, but I figured he and Alexa might like to work on a puzzle together. And they really did! I'm sad (and proud) to say that Alexa is actually better at puzzles than I am. He and Arturo patiently worked on the puzzle together all that morning. It was done by the next day.
