Teehee, Fran! I was at the farmer's market last week, and some people were wondering about the scapes and commented on them. I think one of them said they were "cute." Made me think of you. Good luck becoming scape free. There might be a support group out there for you. :)
I am happy to report we are scape free! We stir fried a whole bunch of them with chard, and then made a basil/scape pesto (minus the nuts - Alexa is allergic to nuts) and presto! Scapes are a memory in our house hold (for now).
