Last Day at the Beach

Sick of beach pictures yet?
This is taken from our last day on the beach. Arturo and the girls dug a little sand bench right by the tide. They sat there so they could watch "the show." Show consists of:

1) The audience is seated:

2) Lex spots a big wave coming that will hit their bench!

3) Water hits them and Alexa makes this face EVERY time. It was adorable!

Corolla - 4X4 beach

On Thursday, we headed off to Corolla to a really neat 4X4 beach with the Chens. We had to leave the new minivan in a parking lot, but Ginny's trusty 4Runner got us onto a great secluded beach. The girls were fascinated that cars were allowed onto the beach.

Here are me and Emma's footprints, side by side:

More Beach - Surprise, Surprise

This afternoon at the beach was particularly fun because Arturo spent most of the time with the girls by the ocean. They were kicking at the waves, throwing sand into the ocean, and having a really fun time, as you can see from the girls' faces.

Cape Hatteras

We drove down to Cape Hatteras Wednesday morning with the Chens. The girls were all so excited about climbing to the top of the Lighthouse, but then we found out that they weren't tall enough. They were pretty bummed. :(

Here are the girls, working hard to get their "Junior Park Ranger" certification and pin.

Jockey's Ridge - More Sand!

On Tuesday morning, we climbed Jockey's Ridge -- one of the tallest sand dunes on the East coast. It was really hot, but the top of the ridge had a non stop breeze, which made it more comfortable and perfect for flying kite. Here's Emma getting the hang of kite flying.

More Beach Time

On a couple of our beach days, Arturo dug the girls a hole that was wide enough for both girls to sit in, and deeper than Alexa is tall! The girls loved hiding out in their hole playing in there.

Exploring Duck

We spent one lazy afternoon wandering around Duck. The girls were obsessed with the Hermit Crabs in one store, and spent a long time watching them. Other than that, we just wandered around the stores... This first picture is one of my favorite of the trip...

Beach House Pics

We only took a few pictures around the beach house, but here we all are, goofing around. As soon as we arrived at the house, Em and Lex promptly dubbed these bar stools the "life guard" chairs and ate all their meals and snacks there, while of course making sure that everyone was "being safe in the water!"

OBX Beach Fun

We are back from our trip out to the Outer Banks. It was so much fun; the girls couldn't get enough of the beach!

The girls buried Arturo in the sand...

Emma and Alexa have the giggles!

These pictures were taken after we got home from Elizabeth's party Saturday night. The girls promptly ate both the cupcakes that EZ gave them. They also had the giggles. They played and laughed with each other for a good 10 minutes, completely oblivious of us. It was really funny to watch!

Weekend with good friends and good food

(Note: All the pictures in this post were taken by Howard, photographer extraordinaire. When he is around, I don't even bother to take out my camera!)

Margaret, Howard and Aidan came up to DC this past weekend -- they came over to our place Friday night for dinner (more like chaotic shovelling of food) -- and all the kids got to hang out and run around wild. We were able to trick them into all sitting down for a group shot though.

On Saturday night, Elizabeth had a BBQ at her place -- even though the kids ransacked her place (and Alison's) -- sorry to both of you! -- everyone did have fun. And the consensus was that Chris grills up some mean fajitas!

Reston Festival

This past weekend was the annual Reston Festival. As usual, the girls spent most of their time in the Wee Play tent filling up trucks and cups with rice. Emma also did lots of the art projects they had, and the girls got caricatures done of themselves...they came out really good! And it was so hot, everyone got a Sno-Kone :)
